Infants

Our infant room supports a respectful learning environment for the infants in the classroom by being sensitive to each of their needs and by following the children's cues. Infants have very individualized schedules; therefore we plan our curriculum around each child's routine by providing a variety of materials and activities that reflect the developmental stages of each child. Our classroom maintains a flexible environment sensitive to the infants' tolerance levels. Our infants range from 6 weeks to 18 months and we feel it is important to meet the needs of each developmental stage by supplying activities and opportunities that challenge each child.

The Infant room provides a responsive environment that supports a variety of learning opportunities where children are free to explore. We strive to create meaningful experiences for children that extend their cognitive, language, physical, and socio-emotional development in all of our programs. The infants are provided with numerous opportunities to investigate their surroundings. Clay, painting, nature, light, and music/sounds are examples of areas the infant classroom explores. We communicate with parents verbally as well as through personal journals that express the developmental milestones and daily experiences of the children. This is done with photographs, as well as written descriptions.

Special Notes
***Because we respect the individuality of each infant, this is only a tentative and very generalized schedule. We structure the day according to each infants' wants and needs and by being sensitive to the cues each child gives us. Therefore, the routine in the Infant Room is subject to change at any given time. As a daily part of our routine we incorporate all developmental domains including motor, language, cognitive, and social-emotional.

***Each infant is diapered at least every 2.5 hours or sooner if needed, and fed and put down for naps according to his/her individual needs.
